We provide group piano lessons for piano students in MD/DC/VA.

Our private piano teachers will teach group piano lessons in the comfort of your home. If you have two or more children of similar age then you’ll benefit from our great roster of private piano teachers. Group piano classes can be a lot of fun for kids. We have a great rate for group lessons that makes it a fun and affordable.

We have been providing group piano lessons for kids in DC/MD/VA since 2005. We understand how to engage kids and get them excited to be learning their favorite songs on piano. All of our piano teachers understand that kids want to have fun while learning to play. For instance, we teach kids piano using popular songs, while explaining the relevant chords and scales that provide a deeper understanding to music theory. We understand that beginning piano students should have a positive experience when first being introduced to the instrument and our teachers are trained in this regard.

We want to talk with you about your particular group before deciding on a teacher for you. We have many different types of teachers and it’s important that we match the general temperment of your group with the right teacher. Also we need to make sure that the musical goals of the group are consistent. For example, the group will not work if 2 of the three kids want to learn classical and the third child only wants to learn jazz. Generally it is easy to get beginners to agree on what music to learn first. Your teacher will guide this process along. Another important consideration is age. Of course we don’t want to have a 12 year old in a group with 8 year olds. As long as the group are of similar age we will be fine.

If you need help finding an affordable starter piano, contact us and we will be happy to recommend some local piano stores in DC/MD/VA. We have developed personal relationships with the owners and management of several local retail stores and we’re happy to help make the buying process easy for you.

One important factor to keep in mind while practicing a musical instrument is that consistency and accuracy are the most important points to focus on. This applies to drums, guitar, bass, piano and all other instruments.

Lets say that you can play a piece perfectly 9 out of 10 times. So you’re feeling pretty good about that, right? Well, imagine if you have a 5 piece band and everyone plays the piece 90% correct. Well, the percentage of overall accuracy just went down substantially. Or if you imagine that each person in a big band or symphony plays his or her piece correctly 90% of the time. Now the overall percentage drops dramatically!

Therefore, it is best that you can play your required piece closer to 98% or 99% correctly on a regular basis. The main thing here is that you focus your attention while practicing so that you get the most out of your practice time because the standard for performing in a group is pretty high!

Keep practicing… “Because Music Matters”!

If you are looking for an accomplished clarinet teacher to get started with lessons, we might have a good fit for you. Here is a bit about him. Just let us know if you’d like to schedule a lesson!

Jonathan Russell is a clarinetist and composer who has been teaching clarinet privately for many years, and taught Music Theory and Ear Training classes at San Francisco Conservatory, as well as private composition lessons at the preparatory and adult extension divisions at SF Conservatory.

Jon is especially expert in bass clarinet, in case you have any students particularly interested in that. He played with the group Edmund Welles in San Francisco, a top-notch bass clarinet quartet that plays hard rock and heavy metal-inspired music and he has an extensive background in classical, klezmer, Balkan, and contemporary music.

Jon is a very passionate, dedicated teacher, intent on making the experience enjoyable and fun for students. He aims to give his students a solid grounding in the fundamentals, but also to include things like improvisation and even composition from an early stage. He wants to encourage students to pursue that which excites them and resonates with them. Music must always be an exciting, living thing, not a pedantic exercise!

We focus our interview process on a few important factors. Musical experience and reliability are of course required, as well as a nationwide background check. But the ability of our teachers work well with children is of the utmost priority for us. In fact, our application asks this exact question… “What makes you qualified to work well with students between the ages of 5 and 15?”

Here is a response from a recent applicant:

After growing up playing percussion I switched to bass guitar just before auditioning for college. I have since graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia. I hold a bachelors of music in Jazz Bass, and Recording techniques. I play bass in the D.C. and Northern Virginia area with different groups, and have played venues such as the 9:30 club and Nissan Pavilion.

I have worked with children in different fields from simple babysitting, to music related environments. I have worked with children in local churches and work well with the entertainment, and stimulation of the education of kids.

B&B Music World specializes in teaching music to children between the ages of 5 and 15. All of our teachers must be able to connect well with children and keep them motivated and interested. Here is an example of why our teachers work so well with kids:

I taught as the “Music Specialist” at Undercroft Montessori School in Tulsa, OK, for a year and a half, and then moved to teach Music at Tulsa Central High School, a public school with students from grades 7 through 12.

During that time, I developed a real joy for teaching children. I love the enthusiasm children bring to the study of an instrument, whether it is guitar, piano or their own voice. In fact, my best student – in terms of most accomplished under my tutelage and who have stayed with their instrument for more than five years – have been children, one boy with whom I started when he was seven and the other when he was nine.

I have also taught children with special needs.

Please forward this email to your musician friends, associates and students.
This is going to be a “Real-Book” oriented, friendly jam session.
This session is open to EVERYONE – past, present, and future students of the Jazz Workshop, and ALL musicians on all instruments who would like to come and play.

Come out and play some tunes with us! Even if you aren’t comfortable with the idea of playing in public with a group, at least come hang out with us – you can meet other students in the Workshop, and soak up some great live jazz being played by your peers. Remember, this is NOT a competitive session – I will make sure that it’s a friendly, relaxed vibe.

We will have a house trio or quartet with piano, bass and drums. Pianists, bassists and drummers can use the piano, drums and the bass amp. A guitar amp will be provided as well (though you’re welcome to bring one). We welcome ALL instruments!
